Saturday Craftiness

I didn't finish all of my intended craftiness for the day due to a variety of reasons; limited nap time, needing to feed myself, visiting family from out of town, etc. I did get some done though and I love what came out of today's "me" time.
I'll be checking some more things off my to do list tomorrow but there never seems to be enough hours in the day to get everything done that I'd like to. Here are some pictures of what that pile of stuff in the last post has begun to turn into:

Pillowcase dress with lace

Camo (blue) and pink pillowcase dress

Short and long baby legs
There is one more dress and two more  pair of baby legs coming as well as a new (bigger) pair of crochet baby legs once I get to that.
We went out to dinner tonight and Froggie got sucked in to the Pittsburgh Penguins game. She loved the game and started to fuss when it was time to go. My big boy got a sucker out of a crane machine and though we normally don't let him have them but I figured it was time to let him try. He loved it but anyone close to him came away sticky.

Big bother enjoying his sucker.

Crafts, Comics and Castles OH MY!

Lunches, bedding and bags are packed for a quick getaway tomorrow morning. Sadly, this is the point where my weekend is over. Once I start packing lunches Sunday merges from weekend to week night.
Today has been a fairly busy weekend full of crafting, comics and photography. In my previous post you witnessed my craftiness in action but following dual nap time my kids and I drove to our local comic book store to meet my husband (who's kind of a nerd) for Free Comic Book Day.
In the beginning of May every year comic book stores are flooded with people dressed up in costumes flocking in through their doors to collect their free comic. I think my son had a lot of fun and both of my kids wore superhero shirts all day yesterday! Froggie even wore a hand-me-down spiderman shirt with her red & white striped leggings under her harness with a big blue flower on her head. She tolerates the headbands and giant flowers, I hope she's equally as tolerant of the clips and bows that are soon to come since her hair is starting to curl down into her forehead and over her ears.

My little family and their comic books.

I left Froggie and my son in the hands of my mother this morning to go take portraits of our third graders make their First Communion. I love taking photographs and despite the stress of events like today I really enjoy doing it. After this I re-assembled my sons play set which he refers to as a castle. He couldn't even wait for it to be pressure washed before he climbed all around and got good and dirty while doing so.
Froggie seems to have adjusted to the harness and still lets us take it off and put it on without complaint. When it's off her legs continue to stay "froggied" for the most part but she seems so happy to wiggle her chunky little legs. Today she had her harness off for less than an hour to get her clothes changed and do some tummy time. It amazes me how well she holds her head up and how determined she is to roll over. She hasn't done it since the day she got her harness (and that day she did it 3 times!) but she tries very hard to get from belly to back. This evening she got herself rolled up on her side and just got comfy there.
It's time to give in to the upcoming week and let the weekend come to a close.

Let The Crafting Begin! (Baby Legs tutorial)

It is absolutely beautiful outside. However, I'm sitting here in front of my computer and earlier I was sitting in front of a sewing machine. This is partially because both, yes I said BOTH, of my children are napping at the same time and I'm getting some craftiness out of my system.
Like I said in an earlier post leggings are a must have, they also cost more than I would like to spend on them. That being said I had pinned a couple tutorials while wasting time on Pinterest and figured now was as good a time as any to give it a shot.
The original tutorial was from the blog  My Sister's Suitcase but I adapted it a little. So here is my version:

Start with women's knee length socks. I got this 3 pack on a clearance rack for $3.50 but I've also seen bloggers post that they get theirs at their local dollar store.

Unlike the other tutorials I chose to cut my socks a little differently. I opted to cut them off at the ankle and cutting a shorter cuff rather than cutting out the toe and heel as the tutorial suggested. My daughter is only 3 months old so she doesn't need the extra length that the longer cuff and longer leg provide.

Fold the cuff in half and line it up with the rough edge of the leg. I chose to pin them because I set up all 3 pair before I pulled out the sewing machine but if you're doing one and going straight from cutting to sewing pins may not be necessary. I also opted not to make the cuff more narrow as directed in the tutorial from My Sisters Suitcase. This decision was made for 2 reasons, I pinned everything before I got the sewing machine out which made that step hard and I didn't actually think the cuffs needed to be made any more narrow than the leg since our other leggings and baby legs don't have a significantly narrow cuff. Now it's time to sew and you have a brand spanking new pair of baby legs (or 3)!

Hoppy Friday!

Let the weekend begin! The weather in our neck of the woods has been beautiful for the past few days and typically our luck would run out once the weekend arrived but this weekend is expected to be beautiful as well.
It has become my Friday tradition to take pictures of Froggie to document her being another week older. Today she is 13 weeks old! Rather than her normal snapshot on the couch I decided to set up shop outside in the sun. I love her smiles and she even decided she wanted to show off her harness.

13 weeks old & showing off her harness.

I FINALLY finished a legging! I altered the pattern a few times but was happy with my end product. The pattern was supposed to be for a 3-6 month old and it fit Froggie but seemed a little snug. I'll probably alter the pattern to make a larger size so that I can put them over the Velcro on her ankles so that she wont have to wear leggings that go clear to her diaper.

Unfinished business

Being a beginner when it comes to crochet means that the task of creating leggings for Froggie took longer than the pattern indicated 30 minutes. The fact that I also don't typically have an uninterrupted 30 minutes may also have something to do with that.
While I may not have a completed set of leggings or even a single completed legging to report I figured I'd post my progress just to document that I did work on my project for today.

I'll be sure to post a picture when they're actually done as well. As an added bonus here is my smiling Froggie, the picture is from yesterday at daycare before we went to the zoo.

Happy Froggie!

Leggings

Leggings are a MUST HAVE! Froggie went one day without them and her poor little thighs were rubbed red and looked really sore. It was difficult to find leggings locally and we lucked out that our local kids consignment store had a few in their inventory that we bought out.
That being said, my task for today is to try to crochet a pair of leggings! I taught myself to crochet while I was pregnant and I figure I might as well put my "new" skills to use since I also have a stock pile of yarn. Here is what they should look like:
