Hip Hop 5K Erie

I'm excited to say that I've been away for a variety of exciting reasons; planning a 5K, prepping for my little sister's wedding, buying our first home and planning vacation.
You read that right! The Hip Hop 5K is coming to Erie, PA! It's this coming weekend but it's not too late to donate or sign up to participate! Any donation helps and just think, if 50 people were to donate their $5 coffee for just one day that would be $250! If they rounded their donations up to $10 that would be $500! You get the point, small amounts add up quickly!
Do me a favor and if you aren't able to participate, consider donating. The proceeds all go to the International Hip Dysplasia Institute so that more cases of hip dysplasia can be caught and treated. Together we can, together we will!
Find the link to the website here, there are options to register yourself or a team as well as to make a donation. Hip Hop 5K Erie registration Website.

Personal Best

43:13.9 minutes is what the clock said when we crossed the finish; with a chip time of 42:38.2 we finished our first 5K of the year with our best time yet! The kids stayed with my mom while Hubby and I drove up to the Peninsula to meet our friends and run the 5K portion of the Saint Patrick's Day Distance Festival.
Can't wait to see how Hubby and I improve over the course of the year - we're hoping to achieve our goal of running 12 races this year.

Babysitting Snafu

Hubby and I decided to leave Big Brother at home with my mom while he finished his nap and head to the gym. We took Froggie with us since there are babysitters at the Y but we ran into an issue… We had gotten to the Y at 4:45 and there weren't any babysitters until 5.
Hubby and I opted to take turns side we just planned on running. Hubby stayed with Froggie while I went up to run and was supposed to come up when the babysitter came in. However, the baby sitter never showed up. I ended my run and headed back downstairs to find Hubby and Froggie in the same place I left them. So I took Froggie so Hubby could head upstairs and I waited for the babysitter to show. Unfortunately they never did, until we were finished an putting our coats on at 5:45.
While it was only an inconvenience since Hubby and I went together to the gym, it could have been a huge issue if I'd have tried to go by myself with the kids. I guess we know now that we have to go later in the evening so that we can be sure there is someone to watch the kids!

Resolutions 2014

Now that we're 15 days into the new year I suppose I could discuss my resolutions. I'm not resolving to be more organized, lose weight, cut anything out, etc. I'm resolving to run a half marathon by the end of the year. Today I busted out my Christmas presents for the first time, loaded up iPod, new running shoes and my watch and headed to the gym. I had a nice, but short, run since it was our first time at the Y and we needed to get the kids dinner.

Christmas gear in action

After my first run of the year.

It was nice to be running again, it's been since my 5k on Thanksgiving that I've been running. On a sort of related note I signed Hubby and I up for the Pittsburgh Pirates 5k Home Run AND a box full of running gear showed up on my doorstep today as well!

New Gear!

Ringing in the New Year

Happy 2014! At some point I'll get caught up with all of our recent holiday festivities but Big Brother and Froggie wanted to wish you all a Happy New Year on time! We're spending the evening watching some Disney movies, having some snacks and ordering running gear with the expectation that none of us will actually make it until midnight to watch the ball drop.
